New smart phone app to be launched by MoFA in September

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has revealed that it will launch its smart phones application on the Android system in September. It is the second edition of the Ministry's application on smart phones after it launched the first application for smart devices running on the IOS system such as the iPhone and iPad in 2010.

Meanwhile, the preparation of e-services for the citizens on the application of smart phones is underway. This is added to the "Tawajdi” service that is already provided in the current application.

Within the framework of providing 79 services for the citizens and the foreigners in the country in addition to the accredited embassies to the UAE. The MoFA has begun transfer of the 13 specialised services for UAE citizens, plus the Tawajdi service provided on the website of the Ministry as well as the application on smart phones. Moreover, the rest of the services directed at envoys and foreigners are being transferred to be ready by the beginning of next year.

According to the Ministry, the number of applications downloaded for the iPad and iPhone devices reached nearly 27,000. As for the Tawajdi service, the total number of citizens who registered reached 143,691 since 2009 and is still on the increase.

The new e-services included passport renewal for citizens abroad, receiving notifications on accidents, emergency cases, lost items, detainees or prisoners abroad, the "to whom it may concern certificates” for citizens and many other services that UAE nationals may need while travelling abroad. – The Gulf Today
