In an attempt to streamline visa application procedures, a unified electronic integrated solutions project is being launched in naturalisation and residency departments throughout the UAE, the Ministry of Interior said.

According to Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister, the project will enable applicants to conduct transactions electronically, including applying for entry permits and residence visas, paying fees, tracking status and follow-up procedures, apart from having a round-the-clock service centre, WAM reported.

Applicants can receive notices by SMS on their mobile and via e-mail. The project will "connect UAE embassies with the Naturalisation and Residency systems in the ministry," a ministry statement said. The system, which would use digital gadgets to facilitate transactions and printing of visas, would accelerate travel procedures and allow authorities to investigate false documents just as speedily, Sheikh Saif said.
