A new visa inquiry system which will enable applicants to get information about visa requirements and the status of their applications with the use of modern technology is getting final touches, according to Brigadier Hader Khalaf Al Muhairi, Director-General of Naturalisation and Residence. Speaking after inaugurating the directorate's branch in Al Wajan area of Al Ain, Brig Muhairi said that the service would be launched soon after all the infrastructure had been completed. As part of a master plan to improve services, the directorate has initiated a project to set up a hotline centre to process transactions on the telephone. Work has already begun to set up an office for the purpose at the directorate, Brig Muhairi said.

He said the office would help the people to get necessary information without the need to visit the directorate in Abu Dhabi or its local departments in the emirates. He added that there would be a number of telephone lines to handle a large number of calls. Their numbers will be announced as soon as the office is ready. Brig Muhairi said the opening of the Al Wajan branch was part of the directorate's efforts to reach out to remote areas, as part of a comprehensive plan to improve its services.

"We are always keen that our services reach out to people in remote areas, to help them save time and effort and avoid troubling themselves travelling for long distances to have their transactions processed". "Our slogan is to reach out to citizens and residents wherever they reside, especially after the experiment has proved successful in Madinat Zayed in the Western Region, Delma Island, Al Rahba, and Ruwais etc." Brig Muhairi said setting up of branches of the directorate in areas with high population density is one of the main objectives of the modernisation and development policy adopted by the Ministry of Interior to further stretch the umbrella of security and stability across the country. "These projects are the result of hard work based on scientific planning which enabled us to play our role of providing security and stability," he noted. (The Khaleej Times)
