General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has said the next five years will witness "major changes and positive transformation" in a bid to prop up the federal institutions.

In a statement to the "Dira' Al Watan" magazine marking the 35th National Day of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed said: "We are determined to be an active part and element in this new age, taking advantage of its pros and avoiding its cons. We in the UAE are fully aware of what our region and the world around us are going through in terms of transformations and reformations." He said President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's plan to consolidate the role of the Federal National Council (FNC) and political participation would "help cement the Federation's position locally, regionally and globally and enrich our democratic experience." "We have faith in the UAE woman and her capabilities and potentials and are expecting much from her as far as the national action is concerned. I would thus take this opportunity to urge her to have her presence in the forthcoming elections, as a candidate and voter, felt in such a powerful and influential way," he stressed.

Sheikh Mohammed said the FNC would have a good chance in the upcoming stage to address issues of concern to the public opinion in a spirit of transparency, credibility and universality.

He urged the private sector to play what he touted as "a role commensurate with the encouragement and care it receives from the government." He said the UAE Armed Forces had made great strides in the direction of development and modification of its defensive capabilities.

"An advanced internal security umbrella has now been provided that has had positive impact on the Emirates as a security, safety and stability haven," he elucidated. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
