The UAE is completely free of bird flu and a full-proof monitoring system is in place at border checkpoints to prevent any infiltration of the disease into the country, affirmed minister of environment and water. 'The UAE is free of avian influenza laboratories across the country have not detected any case of bird flu. All samples tested and analysed by quarantine inspectors have also shown no traces of the disease, said Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi. 'Although all bird shipments entered the country through the Ghuweifat border checkpoint were safe, however we are exercising utmost caution to ensure safety of any shipment coming to the country, he told the Arabic daily Al Ittihad. He explained that the Ghuweifat quarantine authority denied entry and confiscated some birds and falcons for reasons related to administrative procedures and not because they were infected with bird flu. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
