No plan to raise visit visa fee

The UAE has no plans to increase fees on visit visas, but is working on an efficient mechanism to enforce a refundable bank or cash guarantee for visitors, a top immigration official said. Brigadier Hadher bin Khalaf Al Muhairi, Director of the Naturalisation and Immigration Department at the Ministry of Interior, said a decision to impose a refundable bank guarantee of Dh2000 on foreign visitors had been postponed because of some reservations by some banks to offer such warranty.

In an interview with "Gulf News” in his office, Al Muhairi said the new mechanism could include specific bank guarantees worked out with the banks or a refundable sum equivalent to the value of the return ticket. But he noted such fees would not affect nationalities already exempted from entry visas. Regarding the issuance of new visit visas the fees are Dh100 and there are no plans to increase that sum of for the time being. "We are currently trying to find an appropriate framework to regulate visit visas process. We are not trying to discourage visitors but we want only to put things in the right direction and make sure that this visitor will leave later. We do not want them to overstay or stay in the country illegally without a job because we are already suffering from this problem. He said the UAE wants to encourage tourism and would not take any measures to turn away visitors as this could also affect conferences and other events. (The Gulf News)
