The Australian government has developed a system that would allow UAE nationals to obtain on-line entry visas to Australia, without visiting the embassy's premises. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Department was the first UAE citizen to use the system which was inaugurated yesterday. The occasion was attended by Noel Campbell, Australian Ambassador to the UAE. In remarks on this occasion, the Australian envoy underlined the need to be more responsive to the increasing demands of modern world. The move was also introduced to coincide with the beginning of additional Emirates Airline flights to Australia. It would enhance trade ties between the UAE and Australia and also encourage more UAE tourists to Australia, noted Campbell. Australia is the first country in the world to apply the system, while the UAE is the first to benefit from the service. UAE nationals can apply for their Australian visas from their residents or offices and get their approvals via the Internet. The system was first developed in 1997 and applied internally. It will include other countries in the future. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
