Operation underway to recover sunken ship off Umm Al Qaiwain

A ship which sank last Wednesday off Umm Al Qaiwain coast is being salvaged now as the weather and sea conditions improved, Environment '&' Water Minister Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd announced yesterday. Dr bin Fahd said diving operations to determine exact position and condition of sunken vessel 'The White Whale', began today from abroad a giant ship pending its recovery.

"A team from the Ministry's Marine Research Centre is stationed there to ensure a clean recovery operation without causing any oil spills," he added. It is expected that the ship will be fully recovered by tomorrow. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
