Orphans send message of ''gratitude and love'' to Zayed

Orphans sponsored by the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) have poured thanks and tributes on H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for sponsoring them, wishing him long life and good health. A total of 149 orphans sponsored by the RCS (Dubai branch) have written messages of appreciation and gratitude to the President for his paternal feelings and care towards them. 'Words cannot express our deep love for you (Zayed)..... we pray Almighty to save you,' one message read. Another child prayed for good health to the President and thanked him for his assistance to the poor and needy people across the world.

'Your are not just a president we are proud of are a great love living in every heart of a UAE national .....your good actions speak louder than words,” another child said on Sheikh Zayed's achievements. Ahmed Al Khaja, Head of Sponsorship Section at the RCS in Dubai, the children had spelled out their true and innocent feelings and great love toward Sheikh Zayed. He noted that the Zayed Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works had earmarked one million dirhams a year for sponsoring 200 orphans.

'These messages of gratitude and love have given us extreme happiness as they prove the strong tie between the RCS and the community,' he added. The message, he added, will be collected and compiled in a volume and submitted to the president. They will also be published and distributed to public and private organisations and schools. Samples of these messages will be shown in media and trade exhibitions in which the RCS takes part.

'The RCS is currently sponsoring 31,962 orphans inside and outside the country, with 2,476 of them inside the country. There were 373 in Abu Dhabi, 198 in Bani Yas, 71 in Western Region of Abu Dhabi, 483 in Al Ain, 154 in Dubai, 73 in Sharjah, 198 in Ajman, 264 in Umm Al Qaiwain, 244 in Ras Al Khaimah and 439 in Fujairah,' he said. Outside the country there were 29,486 orphans in 18 countries.

The RCS, he said, sponsored 406 orphans in Thailand, 1,099 in Ghana, 5,954 in Palestine,830 in Kazakhstan, 1,696 in Lebanon, 90 in Macedonia, 200 in Tajikistan, 1,184 in Jordan, 228 in Ethiopia, 808 in Afghanistan, 972 in Albania, 2,971 in Bosnia, 222 in Algeria, 1,584 in Somalia, 7,768 in Iraq, 2,529 in Yemen, 650 in Indonesia, 295 in Pakistan and 100 in Sudan.

Fatima Al Mulla, Coordinator of Orphans' Office at the RCS in Dubai, said apart from the monthly assistance (Dh 200), the children receive other services like food, clothes, school stationeries and gifts on various occasions. 'The children maintain strong cordial bonds with their sponsors,' she added. The children wrote also messages of gratitude and love to their local sponsors. Around 266 orphans outside the country send 331 messages. She noted that some philanthropists offered to sponsor 10 children or a whole family. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
