The law enforcing authorities in UAE arrested over 25,000 illegal residents during a period from 3rd November 2007 until the end of December 2008, said a senior official at the Naturalisation and Residency Department.
Briefing on the efforts to comb out the illegal residents, Acting Director General of the Naturalisation and Residency Department Brig. Nasser Al Awadhi Al Minhali said that the grace period given for illegal residents had expired on 3rd November 2007.
The law enforcement authorities launched a campaign to comb out the illegal residents who didn't make use of the concessions made by the government without facing any penalties and stayed back violating the law of residency.
During the last 14 months a number of inspectional raids were carried out at various places of work and housing, and a total of 25313 illegal residents were nabbed, Al Minhali said. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
