Over 250 projects compete for Best M-Government Service Award

The total number of nominated projects to compete for the Best M-Government Service Award is 260, including 175 projects from the UAE.

University students in the United Arab Emirates have recorded a significant presence among the projects submitted to top the number of participants. They account for 109 projects in the five categories while Federal authorities submitted 28 projects and local governments provided 38 projects - together comprising the 175 national projects in all categories of the award.

The participation from the rest of the Arab world exceeded expectations with 58 projects nominated for the award, while the total number of global participations reached 27, underlining the importance and attention given to the award not only at the national level but also at the Arab and international levels.

Hessa Bu Humaid, Executive Director of the Government Service Sector at Prime Minister's Office, commended the level of responses across all the categories of the award, highlighting a clear understanding of its objectives and reflecting the enthusiasm of Federal, local government, universities in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the prestigious initiative.

Bu Humaid stressed that the strong National participation complements the government's efforts to shift to m-government in a short period of time to achieve excellence in customer services in line with the UAE Vision 2021.

"The response by universities students who teamed with government entities to submit 109 projects embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, in allocating an award category for university students. Dh1 million is being awarded to the winners of this category to support the UAE youth and stimulate their creative energies to serve their country through innovating on advanced software and technical applications that facilitate the application of government initiatives for improved customer services," said Bu Humaid.

"Creative collaboration between universities and government entities represented a great model of communication and the joint projects submitted through this cooperation will inevitably supports the transition to M- Government," added Bu Humaid.

The Nominations to the award closed at midnight on, December 12, 2013 , with all the projects and participations submitted online at http://www.mgovaward.ae.

The award jury consists of eminent experts with extensive experiences in mobile phone technology and the development of government services. The results of the award will be announced on 12 February 2014 at the Government Summit.

Best mGovernment Service Award is the first of its kind in the region. The aim of the award is to promote awareness among government agencies about the advantages of modern technologies in delivering services and encourage them to improve their services with creativity and innovation factors on the basis of a clear understanding of the customer needs.

The Best mGovernment Service has the following categories: Best mGovernment Service Award on the Federal Level Best mGovernment Service Award on the Local Level Best mGovernment Service Award on the Arab Level Best mGovernment Service Award on the Global Level Best mGovernment Service Award for Students from Universities in the UAE. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
