Pakistani firms to participate in IDEX 2001

Pakistan has expressed its desire to participate in the International Defence Exhibition, IDEX 2001, which will be held in Abu Dhabi from March 18 to 22. In meetings with the correspondent of the Emirates News Agency, WAM, in Islamabad, Pakistani defence industry officials described IDEX as one of the most important events in the world.



Lt. General Abdul Qayoum, Chairman of the Pakistani Arms complex described IDEX 2001 as one of the greatest arms shows in the world and expressed the keen desire of his country to take part in the event by displaying Pakistan's latest arms production. He added that the show is a real opportunity to get acquainted with the latest inventions in the defence industry and to exchange views with other arms producing countries. Abdul Qayoum said that around 20 Pakistani arms factories will take part in IDEX 2001.



He added that Pakistan's production of conventional arms found markets in 30 Asian and Western countries, pointing out that the total volume of Pakistan's exports reached around 30 million U.S. Dollars. Major General Hamed Ali, head of defence export encouragement institution told WAM that Pakistan has come a long way in the defence industry and that it has entered the international arms market, pointing out some of those products will be displayed in IDEX 2001. He added that Pakistan's participation in the show reflects the firm relations with the UAE and other GCC states and will be an opportunity to further consolidate co-operation in various fields.
