Parents need to pay visa transfer fee for children

Residents who need to obtain passports for their children who are currently endorsed on their documents will also have to pay to transfer their residence visas. "Those children who are endorsed on their parent's passport with a valid visa for more than six months can have them transferred to separate passports after paying a fee of Dh100,” an official said.

Those whose residence visas are not valid for more than six months will have to pay a renewal fee of Dh300 for a three-year visa. The visa would be transferred for the remaining period of validity of the parent's visa.

Brigadier Hadher Al Muheiri, Director of the General Directorate of Naturalisation and Residency, recently said expatriate residents, including children, must have their own passports within six months. The new rule would help prevent the smuggling of child camel jockeys into the country, he said.

Passengers travelling with children on their passports were stopped at Abu Dhabi International Airport recently. Authorities later gave residents six months to get passports for their children. (The Gulf News)
