Preparations are underway for one of the most popular events on the Dubai sporting calendar. The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Organising Committee met earlier this week to ensure that all is in place for a record breaking tournament which will see non-stop action and excitement both on and off the court over the fortnight of the event.

The tournament is taking place from 15th-27th February at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Garhoud, and will again feature many of the world's best players, with Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer among those heading to Dubai.

Many of the committee members have been involved in the Championships since its inception, and are delighted that it now regularly attracts the best players in the world. This year marks the 24th men's event and the 16th women's event, and is set to be another exhilarating event for tennis fans as well as for families who want to enjoy the village atmosphere.

The committee also reviewed plans for this year's social programme to accompany the event, with a range of new activities and entertainment being introduced this year, along with many competitions and opportunities for lucky fans to win finals tickets.

Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, the tournament owners and organisers, said, "We are truly excited about this year's tournament. With the calibre of players expected on court, we are guaranteed first-class action for everyone to enjoy. As all the top players have to make it through the early rounds, fans can watch the top players in action on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week and enjoy plenty of activities in the village." – Emirates News Agency, WAM -
