The State visit of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to the UAE which begins today is aimed at cementing the long-standing bilateral and historical ties between the two countries, according to Yemeni envoy in the UAE.

"The visit is also comes within the context of close relationship between the UAE and Yemeni leadership. It is therefore a fraternal visit which will touch on a number of issues, ranging from bilateral to regional and international issues ", said Abdulwahed Mohamed Farea, Yemeni ambassador to the UAE.

The UAE, said Farea, is the largest trade partner for Yemen in the Gulf region, with trade exchanging already above US$1 billion.

"The UAE-Yemeni relations are marked not only by the close historical ties but also by blood nexus. Owing to this intimacy, the UAE has been at the forefront of countries helping Yemen in achieving most of its mega development projects. Recently, the UAE donated US$500 million at the donor conference for development projects in Yemen. This is in addition to other projects such as the construction of the Ma'arab Dam which was funded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan".

Two more dams are also being funded by the UAE in Abyan and Hadida Provinces. The two dams are considered as strategic projects because they are set to revolutionize the agricultural sector and also enhance strategic water reservoirs.

On the investment climate in the UAE, ambassador Saleh, said there was a growing interest by the UAE investors to invest in Yemen, particularly after President Saleh issued a decree, offering land for free to investors embarking on projects worth US$10 million or more. The President will also meet with the UAE businessmen during his visit to the UAE. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
