President orders authorities to continue allowing Saudis entry using ID

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued directives to the concerned authorities to continue allowing Saudi nationals to enter and leave the UAE using their identity cards.

Lt. General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister said Sheikh Khalifa's decision stemmed from the leadership's keenness and firm policy towards enhancing the march of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

"The decision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan also signifies the country's adherence to the achievements made by the Council during the past few years in facilitating travel of GCC citizens within the member countries, using the identity cards, in a way that maintains the common interests and strengthens economic and social ties between them." "The UAE will continue to implement of agreement made in Saudi Arabia, regardless of the decision made by the Saudi authorities to bar UAE citizens from travelling to the Kingdom with their ID cards," Sheikh Saif said.

The UAE pioneered the use of ID in travelling to fellow GCC member countries, including Sultanate of Oman. The Gulf Cooperation Council was founded in 1981in Abu Dhabi to realize common aspirations, ambitions and interests of the Gulf citizens. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
