President receives Sheikh Rashid Award for the Humanitarian Personality 2010-2011

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the Sheikh Rashid Award for the Humanitarian Personality (2010-2011) at a ceremony held at the Dhiyafa Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Khalifa was nominated in May for the Award by a group of Arab, Islamic and international humanitarian and charity organisations, centres and cities which view him as a world model that is worth to be emulated in terms of giving and philanthropy to the entire humanity.

The Award was conferred upon Sheikh Khalifa at the ceremony which was held in the presence of Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and the Rulers of various emirates, the crown princes and deputy rulers, ministers and senior officials.

President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who heads the Supreme Committee of the Award was present at the ceremony.

The Sheikh Rashid Award is given to prominent personalities, an important event that takes place within the list of events and activities that are organised in the UAE every two years. Many eminent people have been selected regionally and internationally during the last 11 years. These personalities have played a prominent role specifically in the area of charitable work, and humanitarian development, in general.

Sheikh Khalifa thanked the Award's Supreme Committee for naming him for this years Award.

In a statement on this occasion Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: "It is an honour to bestow the award on His Highness Sheikh Khalifa. This is the least that could be presented to His Highness in these days when we celebrate the 40th national day reflecting the spirit of the union. His highness was so generous and kind when he issued a bunch of ordinances to support the welfare of the people".

Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Jumaa Al Maktoum, Board Member of the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre, said the exploits of Sheikh Khalifa are countless and seen throughout the Arab and Muslim countries.

Ahmed bin Dalmuk Al Maktoum, Board Member of the Rashid Centre, also congratulated the UAE people on the President's winning of the award.

Ahmed Hashim Khoori, the founder of the centre said that the award has become one of the most prestigious awards in the Arab and Muslim world, adding that the Sheikh Rashid Award is proud that Sheikh Khalifa won the award on the day Emiratis are celebrating the national day.

For her part, Mariam Osman, Director General of the Centre, Deputy Chairperson of the Higher Committee of the Award, said the day of honouring the UAE President will be memorable, adding that he deserves the award. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
