Amman - President of the Arab Thought Forum and Co-Chair of the Independent Commission for International Humanitarian Issues(ICIHI) Prince Hassan bin Talal has lauded UAE's stand on humanitarian issues and its continuous support to poor nations helping them to rebuild their countries after being devastated by wars and natural disasters.

At a meeting with a delegation from UAE Red Crescent Authority(RCA) who is in Amman to participate in a workshop jointly organized by UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(OCHA) and UNICEF, Prince Hassan recalled the footprints left by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the field of global humanitarian aid. He said that these footprints are followed by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan by way of extending the hands of help to all those who suffer from distress and deprivation around the world.

Prince Hassan commented on UAE's quick and timely decisions to extent help and relief at times of need and said that Lebanon, Palestine. Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan stand testimony to this humanitarian attitude of UAE.

Prince Hassan reiterated his call to set up an international Zakat Fund to support poor and war-torn countries helping them to rebuild.

In his opening speech at the workshop Prince Hassan who was once the Moderator for the World Conference on 'Religions for Peace', lamented on the enormous wealth being wasted on warfare around the world and said that if this wealth was utilized for the wellbeing of poor nations, the world would have become a better place. He also called for peaceful solutions for regional conflicts to save the mankind from war and destruction. The workshop is being attended by the RCA delegation headed by Director of Projects Abdullah Mohammed Al Mahmoud. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
