The Ministry of Public Works has accomplished the first road lighting project that extends 11km, through using solar energy.
The Wadi Sidr Area was selected to apply this system, which does not require the electrical installations, lines of low and high tension.
This system also contributes to reduction of the rates of carbon emissions, hence reduce the environmental impact of light on the surrounding areas. It is characterised with low cost of maintenance.
Dr. Abdullah Al Nuaimi Belhef, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works, said in a statement yesterday that this project comes in line with the directives by the UAE and Abu Dhabi governments on the implementation of projects that meet the principles of sustainability.
He added that this project in addition to being empirically supported by studies and experiments in the field of IT projects, it represents the successful achievement whose concept can re-apply in all road projects far from the electrical installations. Belhef said the project saves high cost operation expenses of the traditional electric lighting. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
