Russia is keen on furthering relations with the UAE in various areas to provide both countries with good opportunities to come up with constructive relations, in particular in economy and investment, said Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking at a press conference with Russian media representatives in the UAE capital yesterday, Putin said his state visit to the UAE, however short, was useful and significant. He said his tour which took in the UAE, Indonesia and Australia was a significant step towards cementing relations and opening up wider horizons of cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking about the one billion US dollar exports loan granted by Russia to Indonesia, Putin said he was confident that Indonesia will be able to pay off the loan in time. Putin stressed that he was keen on wrapping up his tour with a visit to the UAE which he said the Russian government has special interest in due to the boom in various areas and as well as to its open economic policy.

Asked about the extent of political rapprochement between Moscow and Washington, Putin said "my relationship with the US President George W. Bush is good despite the differences (between Russia and USA) which have already surfaced and which we have to shun and work to solve away from the rhetoric of threatening."

Speaking about the end of his second term as president, the Russian leader said he was willing to work till the last second of his term as President of Russia", adding that in the remaining days of his current term, he will be working twice as much." (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
