RCA, UNRWA discuss joint projects in Gaza
posted on 06/11/2009

Gaza - Secretary-General for Relief and projects in the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) Dr. Saleh Al-Tai met here with the senior officials of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza and discussed with them joint projects carried out by UNRWA in cooperation with the Red Crescent in the Mediterranean Strip.
He discussed with Social Affairs Officer of UNRWA Dr.Hossam Manna and his team a number of issues including the sponsoring of inmates at the orphanage run by UNRWA and the maintenance of damaged homes.
Dr. Tai arrived at the Shati refugee camp Saturday morning and visited the homes of a few destitute families living in the camp. He vowed to provide assistance to poor families in the camp in cooperation with UNRWA.
He later visited a number of demolished mud houses and the UAE district project in the city of Khan Younis. The UNRWA officials briefed Al Tai on the requirements to complete the construction of 151 houses.
Tai also visited the schools built at the expense of the Red Crescent in the region. The school can accommodate more of 1160 students and will serve the residents of the refugee camp adjacent to the area.
Tai said that the UAE district project includes the construction of a clinic and schools and digging of water wells, in addition to 600 housing units to serve thousands of Palestinians in the region. The project also will make major contribution in building a technical training college in Khan Younis. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
