An initial amount of AED5 million was earmarked by the Red Crescent Authority )RCA) to secure a strategic reserve of relief material to enable rapid humanitarian intervention in emergencies in times of crises.
The funds will be used by the agency for phase1 of its long-term project which will procure foodstuff, healthcare and medical products and sheltering material from local markets.
RCA increased the capacity of its storage facilities at the International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Jebel Ali, Dubai, to 15000 square meter, according to its secretary general Mohammed Ateeq Al-Falahi.
"Countering humanitarian disasters is only possible through enhanced logistic capabilities and suitable plans, alternative plans and solutions which should take all scenarios into account." "Humanitarian disasters in this region and the neighbouring regions demand the rapid mobilisation of logistic support for victims of disasters as well as exchange of views with regional and international agencies to enable them to tap the UAE's strategic reserve during disasters," he said. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
