Fifty-two countries and hundreds of thousands of needy families will benefit from the annual Ramadan campaign carried out by the UAE's primary humanitarian organisation, it was announced.

The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has completed preparations for the implementation of seasonal Ramadan projects, which will total Dh4.7 million, although the authority is expecting more funds to be raised in the coming weeks.

"All preparations have been made, including money transfers and distribution plans, as well as the mechanisms for work teams to implement the projects," Khalifa Nasser Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the RCA said in a statement.

Al Suwaidi praised the role played by UAE embassies, which assist in the implementation of the projects, saying it was a reflection of the humanitarian face of the UAE, while also stressing the importance of the role of donors.

Dh2.5 million had been allocated for the 'breaking of the fast' projects, and will be spent on banquet-style meals as well as food packages. Dh1 million has also been allocated for the Eid clothing project. The Zakat project worth Dh1.2 million, will target groups include orphans, widows, low income families, people with special needs, as well as those affected by war or natural disasters. Needy people in countries including Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, Bosnia, Somalia, Yemen, Thailand and Togo, will benefit from the project. (Gulf News)
