Islamabad - The UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has successfully completed the second phase of the distribution of humanitarian supplies to help the refugees who fled Swat Valley in the north western frontier province of Pakistan.

The relief supplies were rushed to Pakistan as per directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The humanitarian operations of RCA were implemented with active follow up from HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority.

The relief supplies included basic food, blankets, tents and other shelter materials. The humanitarian operations of RCA covered the displaced families living in makeshift tents scattered in six camps.

The convoys carrying the relief supplies of RCA were accompanied by director of the Sharjah branch of RCA Khamis Mohammed Al Suwaidi and Omer Ahmed Al Shehhi.

The UAE embassy in Islamabad had arranged security escorts for the relief convoys as the region still remained under security threats. Ambassador Ali Saif Sultan Al Awani was continuously following up to ensure the successful arrival of the relief team at the camps. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
