As per directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to lessen the hardships of Somali people, and with support from General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, as well as active follow-up from Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has completed the second phase of its relief programme in the African country.

Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Chairman of the Board of directors of RCA said that large quantities of foodstuff were distributed among the weaker sections of the Somali people in an effort to alleviate their sufferings. He said that this reflected the keenness of the leaders and the people of UAE to stand beside their brothers on the soil of Somalia.

Somali Interior Minister Mohammed Mahmoud praised this humanitarian gesture from UAE and thanked the continuous efforts of RCA for contributing to the eradication of destitution in Somalia brought about by various incidents. The food aid which will suffice for the next several months was dispatched to the Somali authorities in the presence of officials from Red Crescent Society of Somalia and the Representative office of UAE Red Crescent.

Al Suweidi said that the first phase of the relief aid which started several months ago had targeted to better the living conditions of the most affected people, ensuring food supplies and healthcare. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
