A humanitarian team from UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) will leave soon for Myanmar for emergency relief operations in Myanmar hit by Cyclone Nargis. RCA volunteers are busy loading a cargo plane carrying relief supplies for the victims of the natural disaster as per directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of RCA HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak al Nahyan.

The volunteers has drawn out plans to distribute food and other necessary relief supplies in the Southeast Asian country hit by one of the most devastating cyclones, which left tens of thousands dead and made over a million people homeless. Sheikh Hamdan has given special orders to render the best services RCA can offer to alleviate the sufferings of the victims living in makeshift camps in Myanmar.

Deputy Secretary General of RCA Saleh Mohammed Al Mulla said that as soon as the directives came from Sheikh Hamdan, the RCA team started preparations for sending the cargo plane carrying necessary relief supplies including food, water, blankets and medicine. Al Mulla said that RCA will coordinate its operations with the Myanmarese Red Cross Society in an effort to effectively carry out the relief work. RCA will be making local purchase of more supplies as soon as the team lands in Myanmar, added Al Mulla. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
