A delegation from UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) paid visits to the Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan and Syria. The visits were made as part of an effort to see the living conditions of the refugees scattered in different parts of the neighbouring countries. The delegation visited several schools, residential units and healthcare centres to collect first hand reports about their needs.

During the visit to a refugee camp in Syria, the delegation laid the foundation stone for a school situated near the 'Al Beeah' camp where a thousand refugees live. A ceremony held on this occasion was attended by several senior officials of UNRWA, and Yusuf Mohammed Al Midfa'i, UAE ambassador in Damascus. The expenses of the school to be built at of US$780,000 will be met by donations from UAE.

The School will provide education for over 1700 Palestinian Children. Al Midfa'i expressed gratitude to President H.H.Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the government and people of UAE for their continued support of the Palestinian people in Palestine and abroad.

Director of the General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugees(GAPAR) Ali Mustafa thanked UAE for its continuous help extended to the Palestinian people by way of setting up educational institutions, residential units, healthcare centres and other utilities.

The delegation also visited refugee camps in Al-Neerab near Aleppo city and Ain Al-Tell where thousands of refugees are accommodated.

The delegation listened to UNRWA officials who explained the need for more residential units in order to relocate the refugees from the old ones which are dilapidated. Several new blocks and residential units have been proposed by UAE.

Proposals for joint activities between UAE Red Crescent Authority and UNRWA have been put forward to build more residential units, and to provide educational and healthcare facilities.

Al Mahmoud said that UAE will always give all the necessary support to the Palestinian people, under the directives of President H.H.Sheikh Khalifa and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the continued follow-up from Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Red Crescent Authority.
