The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) delegation in the Chinese earthquake devastated Sichuan province started delivering aid to the victims in cooperation with the UAE embassy in China.

The move is in line with the wide scaled relief efforts exerted by the Chinese government in cooperation with the Chinese Red Cross.

On arrival at Chengdu Airport in Sichuan province, the RCA delivered the first relief shipment to the Chinese Red Cross in presence of UAE Ambassador to China Mohammed Rashid Al Bot and Kong Juen Liang, representative of the Chinese Red Cross and representative of the Chinese governmental relief committee to supervise relief operations in Sichuan province.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Hajj Al Zarouni, head of the RCA delegation, said that RCA seeks to deliver basic needs such as shelter devices to offer accommodation to hundred of thousands dispersed by the earthquake.

He added that the RCA shipment, weighing 40 tonnes, included blankets, tents and others to provide shelter to the victims, indicating that the RCA is coordinating with the UAE embassy in China.

Al Zarouni noted that the RCA will buy additional needs and relief supplies from the local market in China to distribute them as per relief programme to ensure they speedily get to the victims.

On his part, Liang lauded efforts of the UAE government and people for their relief initiative, adding that the RCA relief shipment, which included 800 tents, was immediately transported to the shelter site of the victim. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
