The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) plane carrying 40 tonnes of relief programme ordered by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the RCA, to assist the victims of Sichuan earthquake, will leave Sunday for China.

Saleh Mohammed Al Mulla, deputy secretary general for relief and projects at the RCA, said the RCA is set to assist victims through its existing programmes in the light of directives from Sheikh Hamdan.

He added that coordination is underway between the RCA and UAE embassy in Beijing to back up the efforts being exerted by the Chinese official authorities.

Al Mulla underscored that the RCA "offers support to sisterly and friendly countries and dispenses relief and humanitarian programmes without discrimination", adding that the plane will arrive in China at 04PM UAE time, carrying 40 tonnes of food items, water, shelter devices, tents, blankets and medical assistance. The relief items will be co-distributed by the Chinese governmental relief committee and Chinese Red Cross – Emirates News Agency, WAM
