Kinya, Sri Lanka - Victims of Tsunami who lost houses three years ago in the small Sri Lankan town of Kinya will now be re-housed in a new residential city, thanks to a generous housing programme sponsored by the UAE President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The new city which comprises 100 houses is part of a large housing programme which saw the distribution of some 1, 024 housing units along with complete amenities in Ambara town this week. The city was opened here today by the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA). An RCA delegation headed by Mohammed Habroosh supervised the distribution of the houses.

Internal road networks and sewerage systems were also constructed or renovated as part of the project which came into being three years ago in the wake of a devastating tsunami which hit the coastal areas of Sri Lanka. As soon as the funds were provided , three parties, namely the UAE's RCA, the UN population fund in addition to local organisations teamed up to carry out the project. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
