RCA earmarks over Dh50 million for annual foreign aid

The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has set aside Dh50.5 million for its seasonal humanitarian programmes abroad.

The oversees budget was approved in a meeting of the foreign assistance committee chaired by Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, RCA Secretary General, who said the committee had answered requests and appeals for help from international relief organisations and official entities.

Of the Dh50.5 million, he indicated that Dh6 million will go to Ramadan fast-breaking programme, Dh3.5 million to Zakat ul Fitr, Dh1.5 million to Eid clothing, Dh 6.5 million to sacrificial animals and Dh5 million to stipends.

As for requests for assistance from individuals and official agencies, Dr. Al Falahi said the committee approved Dh10 million for health and social programmes in the Palestinian Territories including lab and learning equipment to Birzeit university and other assistance to Gazans who were affected by the recent cold spell. Somalia, Yemen and Lebanon will each get Dh2 million in miscellaneous assistance. Syria will receive assistance worth Dh5 million while Pakistan will have Dh1 million.

The RCA had already offered assistance to India in tune of Dh1 million while countries struck by tsunami received Dh1 million.

The RCA implemented humanitarian projects abroad worth Dh 3 million donated by Philanthropists in the UAE. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
