A cargo plane carrying 40 tons of relief aid from the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) landed at Iraq's Mousel airport yesterday. A RCA delegation headed by Rashid Al Mansouri will soon start relief operations in coordination with the Iraqi Red Crescent. The consignment was dispatched as per directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and with active follow up from Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and Chairman of RCA.

Chairman of the board of directors of RCA Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi said that the directives from the leadership mirrors the constant concern about the plight of people in Iraq and its keenness to alleviate their sufferings. Al Suweidi added that as soon as RCA received directives from H.H President and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince General Sheikh Mohammed to intensify relief operations in Iraq, the Authority loaded the cargo aircraft with consignments of medicine, medical equipments, food items, blanket and clothing, and dispatched them immediately to the worst hit areas in Iraq. The RCA delegation will also purchase goods from the local markets in Iraq to distribute them among the needy people. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
