The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has been paying great attention to the dire humanitarian conditions in Somalia, where great sector of people suffer from the drought, famine and thirst.

Mohammed Khalifa Al Qamzi, Secretary General of the RCA, said the tackling of situation by the RCA is reflected through intensified relief aid being dispatched to those affected by the famine and drought, which hit large areas in the Horn of Africa, especially Somalia. He added that the directives by H. H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Chairman of the RCA, were issued to send humanitarian aid immediately to those affected by the natural calamities.

Al Qamzi, who left for Somalia yesterday, said he will assess the efforts of RCA office in Mogadishu, and will also tour the Motherhood and Childhood Hospital set up by the RCA in cooperation with the Oasis International Foundation. He said that the RCA had so far provided Dhs146 million assistance to Somalia over the last 10 years, of which most of the amount was spent on projects that benefited the needy Somalis. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
