RCA provides medical supplies to Al Aqsa Hospital in Ain Al Hilwa Refugee Camp

Medical equipment and supplies worth Dh5.5 million for Al Aqsa Hospital in the Ain al-Hilweh, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, were supplied by the UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

RCA's aid includes life-saving and healthcare materials, rehabilitation of the operating theatre and laboratory and other basic infrastructure of the hospital which serves the residents of the camp which accommodates 80000 people.

Secretary General of RCA, Ateeq Al Falahi, said the charity intensified relief efforts for Palestinian refugees at camps in particular to help stop the stop the horrible deterioration of basic services including medical care.

"RCA monitors the humanitarian situation of Palestinians with great concern and works aggressively to improve it. RCA responds to appeals from Palestine and bodies supervising refugee camps," he added.

Up to 80,000 people are crammed into the 1.2-square kilometer Ain al-Hilweh which was established Southeast of the port city of Sidon in 1948 to accommodate refugees from Palestine.

Palestinians in the Ain al-Hilweh camp face persistent challenges such as poverty, health, security, social and environmental challenges which led to the spreading of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, arthritis and other diseases caused by the economic and urban pressures. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
