The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has resumed its airbridge programme to the Sudanese restive region of Darfur to reach out to the displaced persons there. The move is in line with the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The first planeload of relief supplies takes-off today to the airport of Niyala, the capital of South Darfur. The flight is part of an airbridge aimed at transporting to the region five thousand tents to provide temporary shelter for the displaced persons.

According to Dr. Saleh Musa Al Tae, Acting RCA Secretary General, the move was in accordance with the directives of the UAE leadership to help those affected by the sad event in that restive region, adding that it also aimed at supporting the development and stability efforts in the three Darfur states.

He pointed out that the RCA continued to provide support for those affected by the events in Darfur from the beginning of the trouble. He said the RCA had implemented many humanitarian programmes and provided relief assistance, including food, health and shelter, in similar airbridge programme, adding that more than 20 planeload of relief supplies had been delivered so far to the three Darfur states.
