The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) last year carried out humanitarian programmes in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in tune of Dh133.3 million.

A breakdown showed that the value of relief operations reached Dh44.7 million, construction and development projects reached Dh68 million, seasonal programmes was Dh4.8 million, and a sponsorship programme of 5,742 orphans was Dh15.7 million.

Khairy Al Aridi, Palestinian Ambassador to the UAE, said: "The UAE is playing a major humanitarian and developmental role in the Palestinian scene to improve the living conditions and alleviate suffering of the Palestinian people thanks to the generous initiatives by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and support of General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The Palestinian Ambassador made his remarks during a visit to the RCA premises where he had a discussion with the RCA Chairman, Ahmad Humaid Al Mazroui, over the ways to enhance the RCA operations in the Palestinian territories and bolstering partnership with humanitarian agencies there.

After reviewing the current and future relief operations, the Palestinian envoy said the RCA is one of the most generous supporters for social welfare and protection programmes in his country.

Helping all people

"The RCA has massive vertical and horizontal programmes and diverse mix of humanitarian services targeting all segments of the Palestinian people," he added.

Al Mazroui said the UAE relief agency had intensified its humanitarian efforts to address the tremendous economic and health challenges the Palestinians are facing as a result of the blockade, rife unemployment among youths, high prices of foodstuff and deterioration of health services. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
