Islamabad - The medical team sent by the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has started its drive to vaccinate the inhabitants of Nowshera city, which was worst hit by the recent floods. The vaccination campaign implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) aims to immunise children against measles and women in childbearing age against tetanus.
As several parts of Pakistan continues to be submerged in flooding, many diseases are threatening the flood victims calling for intensive relief operations.
During the first days of its presence, the medical team could vaccinate over 3000 persons, according to Nazirullah Khan, a UNICEF official overseeing the campaign.
He said that the presence of RCA team in the field has enormously contributed to the enhancement of awareness creation among the people, who are under threat of epidemics.
The RCA's cooperation in the vaccination drive continues to help UNICEF to meet the target of inoculating over 625,000 children below five years against measles and all women living in makeshift camps against tetanus, he added. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
