A UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) relief plane will take off today to Makkala to deliver humanitarian assistance to population affected by the recent flash floods which killed scores of people and damaged properties in Yemen.

The relief will be airlifted in implementation of instructions given by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to dispatch urgent humanitarian assistance to the flood-victims in Yemen.

Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, RCA Chairman, said the plane would carry over 40 tones of essential food and relief supplies which would be distributed to flood-victims in several provinces in Yemen.

He said that the RCA had transferred funds to its office in Sana'a for purchasing assistance from the local market so as to ensure prompt delivery of them to the affected people.

'Relief operations will be intensified to improve the living conditions of the families in distress,' he added.

'The RCA is closely following the latest development in Yemen as more losses were reported, a situation called for rushing more aid and doubling field operations in response to these changes,' he said.

According to him, a RCA team is on the scene to assess the actual requirements of the affected categories and coordinate relief operations with the Yemeni Red Crescent. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
