Baghdad – The UAE Red Crescent Society, RCA, will establish a medical centre at its cost at Al Ayashi village, 40 km from Baghdad. Khalfan Al Ka'abi, head of the RCA delegation to Iraq, said the centre will provide medical services to the 15,000 residents of the village as well as ten neighbouring villages. The director of the present medical centre in the village hailed the humanitarian assistance extended by the UAE to the Iraqi people. He said the medical centre, which has only a check-up room and a pharmacy lacks the minimum requirements and hygienic conditions.

The UAE also distributed food and clothes in Abu Ghuraib and neighbouring villages. Meanwhile, a UAE delegation returned home from Bosnia Herzogovina, where it provided financial assistance to those eligible orphans, and implemented humanitarian programmes for the poorest categories. Salih Al Mulla, the RCA Deputy Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, said the delegation visited a number of Bosnian cities, and provided financial assistance to 350 orphans and poor people.

In the Gaza Strip, the UAE RCA implemented charity projects worth Dh20 million in a year as part of its humanitarian programme for Palestinians. Waheed Mutair, Director General of the Palestinian Ministry of Social Affairs, said the RCA's assistance is being implemented in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and has been closely monitored by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of RCA. He said the UAE is one of the first countries to support the Palestinians and help them overcome their ordeals, particularly after the outbreak of Al Aqsa Intifada. (The Gulf News)
