A Red Crescent relief plane will leave to Mauritania within the couple of days to offer humanitarian aid to the poor population there. Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), said the plane would carry 35 tones of food items which will be distributed to underprivileged population.

He said the consignment, ordered by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and RCA President, is composed of food packages for children like baby powder milk in addition to essential foodstuff.

'Reports received by the RCS from Mauritania showed that broad segments of Mauritanian people have been reeling under the impact of drought and desertification and their conditions have been badly deteroirating,' he said.

From 1994 to 2007, the RCS carried out humanitarian and relief operations in the tune of Dh12 million
