A delegation from the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, led by board member Mohammed Atiq bin Habroush, held a meeting here today with officials from the High Commission for Afghan refugees. During the meeting, RCS officials explained to officials of the commission the UAE keen desire to provide human assistance to Afghan refugees as directed by President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and as instructed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and RCS president.

The UAE urgent assistance is estimated at 500 tonnes which will be distributed in the next few days. The RCS officials also briefed officials from the commission on plans to establish a camp to house 40, 000 afghan refugees in Pakistan and to supply them with all necessary services. Mohammed Naeem Khan, higher commissioner for Afghan refugees, praised the UAE efforts and its human assistance to refugees and expressed the thanks and gratitude of the Pakistani government for this human initiative, expressing the readiness of the commission to provide all facilities to make the RCS mission a success.
