Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and President of the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, has said that the total value of the RCS assistance to Palestinians in occupied territories had reached Dh 131 million since April, 2000. In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Sheikh Hamdan said that the Society will continue its financial and moral support to the Palestinian people to ease their sufferings in the face of Israeli aggression in various parts of West Bank and Gaza. Sheikh Hamdan called on philanthropists in the country to assist their brothers in Palestine through donations to RCS.

He added that RCS assistance included the construction of Palestinian hospitals in West Bank and Gaza and supplying them with medicines and medical equipment as well as financial assistance to families of Palestinian martyrs. Sheikh Hamdan described this urgent assistance to Palestinian people in such harsh circumstances as a duty and reflects the UAE commitment towards the Palestinian people who are suffering for years from sanctions, destruction, killings and who are facing a dangerous economic and social situation.

Sheikh Hamdan said the funds included buying charity properties the proceeds of which would be used in maintaining the Al Aqsa Mosque. He added that an urgent financial assistance of Dh4 million would be transferred to purchase medicine and other medical items for Hospitals and medical centres in the occupied territories.
