The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has allocated more funds for a number of humanitarian projects in Palestine. Sanaa Derwish Al Qitbi, Secretary General of RCS said the Dh3.2 million will be spent on a number of humanitarian projects in Gaza and Jerusalem. Al Qitbi said that some 25,000 families in Gaza and the West Bank will receive Dh1.5 million in food aid. He pointed that there is a dire for food assistance, in view of the deteriorating conditions in Palestine, especially in the refugees camps and rural areas. He said that the threat of starvation is looming, as warned against in various humanitarian pleas. The RCS has purchased six ambulances to be distributed to medical committees in Toulkram, Jenin and Ramallah, said Al Qitbi.

The new ambulances will be used for evacuating the wounded, patients or other victims of the daily Israeli military aggression. Other projects that will be undertaken by the RCS include the school bag programme, an annual project carried out to enable students to go back to school. Some Dh461, 000 has been allocated for the project. Another Dh220 ,000 has been allocated to a charity association that is running a disabled rehabilitation centre. Meanwhile, the Gaza-based Emirates Friends said that the UAE Red Crescent Authority extended US$1.1 million for the construction of a hospital in Beit Lahya in Gaza. Yousuf Al Haddad, Director of the group, said that the hospital once completed would provide medical services to more than 400,000 people living in the northern Gaza. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
