The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross held a meeting in Abu Dhabi yesterday to coordinate their humanitarian efforts in Lebanon. Following a review of the current situation on the ground, the two charity bodies reaffirmed their commitment to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population by providing urgent relief supplies.

The meting also touched on the preparations for the upcoming meeting of the federation of the Red Crescent and Red Cross societies , due to be held in Geneva from 15 to 16 of this month. The Red Cross also lauded the assistance provided by the RCS to its Lebanese counterpart in form of petrol tankers.

"One of the most important challenges on the ground at the moment is how to transport petroleum products to hospitals in South Lebanon. The UAE help here is important because it will facilitate the supply of diesel to the beleaguered hospitals", said Jean-Claude of the Red Cross Regional office in Kuwait. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
