Basra - The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has continued its humanitarian mission here in the city of Basra. As part of the sustained efforts to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population, RCS officials today visited Basra teaching hospital where they distributed water, food items and medicines to children. They also met large numbers of Basra citizens who explained the appalling conditions which they are currently facing. The Basra citizens expressed their appreciation to the utmost care given to their plight by H.H President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who ordered relief consignments to Iraq. Earlier, the RSC officials conducted a survey in and around the city of Umm Qasar to determine the humanitarian needs of the Southern area. The RCS humanitarian operation will cover the rest of the Iraqi cities. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
