RCS continues rendering aid to Muslims world over

The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has spent over half a million dirhams in humanitarian aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon and Afghanistan since the advent of this year's Ramadan. "The total amount expended in Bosnia and Herzegovina was Dh 120,000, while in Lebanon the assistance rendered cost Dh 310,000 and 147,000 in Afghanistan," said Saleh Al Mulla, RCS deputy secretary general for foreign affairs. In Indonesia, he added, the number of beneficiaries touched 26,000 as in Yemen tens of thousands benefited from RCS programmes there.



"A total of 2,000 RCS-sponsored Iftar meals were held at schools, restaurants, mosques and dormitories in Bosnia and Herzegovina," he opined. Iftar meals were organized for over 19,000 Muslims in some Indonesian islands, towns and villages. In Lebanon, a total of 5,200 Palestinian and Lebanese families benefited from the RCS Dh 300,000- projects.



Mulla said US$34,000 were distributed among RCS-sponsored Lebanese orphans. Some 1,060 persons have benefited from the Iftar meals and 1,105 more others from Fitr alms in 14 provinces in Yemen. Over 14,000 Muslims thronged Iftar meals in Afghanistan, while 567 orphans in the strive-torn country have received Eid clothes costing Dh 25,000 from the RCS. An amount of DH 47,000 in Fitr alms has been disbursed to 2,668 individuals in that country. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
