A delegation of the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) arrived in Morocco last Thursday on a mission aimed at assessing the needs of the victims of the earthquake which hit Al Hoceima area in Morocco. Led by Suhail Al Qadi, Director of RCS in Fujairah, the visit of the delegation is a prelude to the implementation of the orders of President H. H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces on the delivery of urgent relief supplies to victims of the earthquake in Al Hoceima.

On arrival, the delegation held a meeting with Moroccan RCS officials. During the meeting, the delegation conveyed the condolences of the UAE people to the Moroccan people on the death of hundreds of people as a result of the earthquake. The delegation also conveyed the condolences of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS), saying that the earthquake has generated a prompt response from the UAE leadership and public.

The delegation cited the recent donation of five million dirhams by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President's wife and Chairwoman of the UAE General Woman's Union as another example of UAE keenness to alleviate the effects of the earthquake. Earlier, Sheikh Hamdan ordered the RCS to organise urgent delivery of the relief items so as to alleviate the suffering of the victims. The RCS delegation will asses the needs and also organise the possibility of purchasing relief items from the local markets. The delegation will liaise with the Moroccan RCS.
