The UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, has presented more than 400 tonnes of medicines, medical equipment and other medical requirements, in addition to food items and basic relief supplies. The gesture was part of the RCS' efforts to assist in tackling the problem of shortage of medicine and medical equipment that has hit most Iraqi hospitals and health centres.

According to the director of the RCS office in Iraq, Ali Ahmed bin Shmeil Al Ka'abi, the RCS was committed to providing the needs of those affected by the on-going incidents in various parts of that restive country to prevent the situation from further deterioration. This, he said, was being done by executing more relief programmes, aimed at meeting the essential requirements of the affected people.

He said the assistance the RCS distributed recently was donated by a UAE philanthropist by the name Aisha Al Suwaidi, adding that the gesture reflects the strong bond of fraternity that exists between the people of the UAE and their brothers and sisters in Iraq. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
