The UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, has delivered a large consignment of medicines and medical equipment to a number of Iraqi hospitals and health centres. The gesture is part of the RCS' programme to help alleviate the sufferings of the Iraqi people. According to Ali Ahmed bin Shmeil al Ka'abi, RCS Representative in Iraq, beneficiaries of the medical assistance, which was delivered through flight number 27 of the RCS' air-bridge programme include the Fallujah General Hospital, the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Baghdad and the Rashid Medical Centre.

Al Ka'abi, who led the distribution of the medicines and equipments to the three beneficiary hospitals said the hospitals were in dire need of those items. Dr. Rafie Hiyad Al Eisawi, Director of the Fallujah Hospital commended the UAE for the significant role it plays in alleviating the sufferings of the Iraqi people. He said the RCS was doing a great job in Iraq through its continuous assistance to the Iraqi people.

In Baghdad, Dr. Abdul Aziz Ibrahim Al Tamimi, Director of the Sheikh Zayed Hospital praised Sheikh Zayed for his numerous initiatives since the beginning of the incidents in Iraq last year. He said the building of the Hospital was an achievement as the hospital was built in a record time at a time when the Iraqis were in dire need of such medical facility, adding that the hospital currently undertakes various types of delicate surgery operations.

Dr. Ali Khalil Abdullah, Director of the Rashid Medical Centre, also built by the RCS at a total cost of about US$125,000 to help improve the health situation in Iraq, received the medical consignment for the centre. He lauded the RCS for its efforts and for its support for the Iraqi people. He said the continuous contact between the centre and the RCS through the latter's representative in Iraq, had contributed immensely in the sustenance of the centre's therapy programme by providing the centre with its medical and medical equipment requirements.
