The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has distributed Dh22 million during the last ten months as part of its local assistance programme, official sources said. Some 10,000 families benefited from the assistance, the sources added. Hamdan Mussalam Al Mazaroui, Deputy Secretary General for Financial Affairs said this huge spending underlines the importance which the RCS attaches to local humanitarian issues. He pointed out that the local programme has expanded this year during Ramadan, in which some 4,000 families across the country benefited from the Zakat project. Other local projects included assistance to students, prisoners, orphans in addition to assistance offered to those in need of medical treatment. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
